A money belt is a pouch or purse usually worn under a shirt in order to protect valuables from thieves and/or pickpockets. It consists of a belt with a pouch attached to the front. The belt is strapped around the waist and the shirt is tucked in over the belt. This prevents thieves from accessing the valuables as they would have to untuck the shirt and unbuckle the belt. If attached correctly, the belt is nearly invisible and undetectable. Money belts are often worn by tourists as a precaution against theft in areas where pickpockets operate and robbery can occur.

Items typically placed in a money belt would include passport, travel tickets, driver\'s license, credit cards, cash, and jewelry.

The phrase money belt is also used to refer to a standard belt with a zippered pouch on the inside edge. While they cannot be used to carry passports or larger items, folded money can be hidden in the pocket. This is often useful as people wouldn\'t think to check the belt for monies.
